Digital Society interviews Sied Van Riel
Hey Sied, How are you - where does DS find you today?
Yoo, i’m good thanks ! I’m actually in my studio at the moment working on my new single. Since it’s 11pm now I think I might call it a night after finishing this interview.
How has the last 12 months been, and what have been the highlights DJ wise? Any particular country that has really stood out whilst you have been on your global travels?
The last 12 months have been crazy !! In a very positive way. The Trance Energy Tour in Australia, Cream @ Amnesia gigs, the ASOT400 tour and Argentina stood out for me... but I’m probably forgetting about 20 other great events now.....it’s always hard when you need to single out 1 event or country. Every country or event has its own vibe I think.
Right, lets talk about ‘Riel Time’. What can you tell us about the recent mix compliation you have completed ?
That it’s out now haha.. (spammmm) No it’s my first ever mix compilation and I’m proud of it. Don’t know what it is, it just feels good to finally have it out there.
You have been tipped by Tiesto as 'the hottest producer around' and described by DJ Magazine as 'the next big thing' what does the future hold production wise?
A lot ! Working on my album now as well. On that I want to show people my full taste in music. I mean I play anything ranging from deeper prog trance to tech / uplifting and what have you because I like it all. It depends on the set time I have of course. So the coming year I want to show more of myself production wise.
Which producers / artists are doing the business for you at the minute, anyone you think stands out right now?
Jan Oostdyk, Claudia Cazacu is pushing out quality as well...and as always Sander van Doorn !
What are your top 3 tunes at the moment?
Sander van Doorn - Bastilon
Jan Oostdyk - Eivissa Eivissa
First State ft Sarah Howells - Brave
What would be your chosen career if you weren’t a DJ?
I’d be still working in the harbour of Rotterdam or be a homeless no good stealing empty milk bottles.
And finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself?
I used to be so afraid of flying, that I actually stepped out of airplanes as well. This one time I was touring with Tiesto I ran out of the plane and went home. Now I feel so relaxed in them ! So incase Eric Prydz is reading this.. give me a call I can actually help you out with this crap.
Thanks Sied, Cheers for the catch up, looking forward to welcoming you at DS in October!
thanks to you 2 and see you in Leeds !! bring it on... one massive line up over there if you ask me.
